have you ever had a hot air balloon almost land on your house? …. Well, we did. Every Memorial Day weekend in Simpsonville, the Freedom Weekend Aloft event occurs. And every year with that comes the hot air balloons. This year they landed in our neighbhoorhood, but not on purpose. One overshot the landing, nearly landing on our roof and then clipping the trees behind our house. No worries, they were okay.
So I’m sure you can imagine that seeing a dozen or more hot air balloons just over the rooftops in your neighborhood would send people scrambling off their couches and into the fresh air outside. Well, it did…and then some! Our neighborhood is very quiet (half built too but that’s another story), people are friendly but we don’t get a lot of traffic and excitement. Well, thanks to the balloons, we got both. Within a matter of minutes, it was like we were in the middle of a street carnival. People everywhere, a constant stream of cars, kids (and dogs) with their heads hanging out the windows, people pointing to the sky, a low hum of chatter and the quiet stares of relieved residence. I have to admit I was both. Relieved that my house wasn’t a landing pad and pointing at the same time saying “this is insane” over and over again. Of course first, I ran into the house and grabbed the camera to take some pics to document this crazy moment. I hope you enjoy them.
